You wake up in an unfamiliar place. You can’t remember if you’ve ever been here before. In fact, you can’t remember anything. All you can sense is
[[The sound of dripping water]]
[[Bright light surrounding you]]
[[The rustle of leaves]]
You sit up and open your eyes, but it makes no difference. All around you is darkness. You reach out your hand to feel around you. The hard cold ground is covered in freezing water. As you press your hand onto the ground to stand up, you feel something round and hard against your skin. It's a button. Suddenly, you’re not in the tunnel, you’re standing in a field. You feel good here. There is a feeling of belonging, of attachment, to this new place. Suddenly your dream is shattered by strange noises from the darkness that began to mix with the sound of dripping water, and the sound of footsteps catches your attention. Something is coming closer. Thinking quickly, you decide to
[[Run]] OR [[Call out]] You wake up in a giant room. You don’t remember how or when you got there but all you can see is the great expanse of white walls that surround you. In the distance, you see a doorway. As you approach the doorway, you find a single button on the floor. You bend down to pick up the button, and as soon as you come in contact with it, an image flashes through your mind. The image is blurry... but the sensations and feelings upon seeing this blurry image are so vivid… so [[familiar]]
You open your eyes and you feel a horrible pain in your head. As your eyes come to focus, you realize that you're looking at an enormous [[leaf]]
You stuff the button into your pocket and race off into the darkness, splashing through the cold puddles as you run blindly away from the strange noises that seem to be following you. Suddenly you run into something solid. You stagger backwards, your head throbbing with pain. As your eyes adjust to the darkness, you can barely make out tattered sails and a pointed bow. It seems to be the wreckage of a ship, left here from who knows how long ago. The wood is rotted and falling apart, but through a gap in the planks you can see something glimmering inside. After a moment of consideration, you decide to
[[Take a look]]
"Who's there?" You call as you stuff the button into your pocket and stand up. The sound grows closer.
"Hello?" Closer. "Who are you? What’s your name? "
A reply finally comes from the darkness.
"I don't know." Says the voice. "I seem to have forgotten it." As your eyes adjust to the darkness, you can see a man dressed in ragged clothing stepping forward. "Do you know?"
You shake your head. "What a shame." He says sadly. I've been down here for years, and I still don't know." A wave of fear washes over you.
"YEARS?"
"Maybe years, maybe decades. I don't know anymore. You can't really tell down here. There's no sun, no stars, no anything."
"Is there a way out?"
"I've tried." The man replies. "It's hopeless. We’re all stuck down here"
You sit down in the puddles and think for a moment. Perhaps
[[It really is hopeless]] OR [[The man is wrong]]
You crawl through the creaking wooden boards and into the interior of the ship. Trudging through the pools of grimy cold water, you continue towards the glimmer of light from the darkness. At the end of the ship, in what seems to have been the cabin, is a lantern shining brightly. There is a book beside it on the half-submerged table. As you step towards the book, something moves past your leg in the darkness. You are startled at first, before you realize it is nothing but a scrap of fabric, which you bend down to pick up. Suddenly, you are back in the field, but it is not the same. Now, there is a good feeling, a warmth, that comes over you as you hold the fabric, but you are shaken from your dream by a sound from the darkness. There is the creak of the wood, and a loud splash nearby. Acting on a whim, you
[[Say hello]] OR [[Try to escape]]
You turn and run off into the darkness, splashing through the cold water that covers the ground. You don’t know what is around you, or what is behind you, or what is in front of you. All you know is that you are not alone down here. All you know is that you need to escape. Suddenly, your foot comes down on nothingness, stepping through the air and continuing downwards. You realize your mistake moments too late as you fall down, down, down into a dark abyss.
[[THE END]]
“Hello? Is anybody there?” You say, but your voice is weak with fear. For a moment there is silence. The splashing stops. Then, out of the darkness comes a voice.
“Why hello, it is I, the great Annabel Lee! I come from a kingdom not far from the sea! Now I know it is crumbling, and the sail has a rip, but may I ask why you are here on my ship?”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t think it was-”
“I know” it replies, “it's not much of a ship” A young girl steps into the light. She has pale hair and peircing blue eyes. “So I’ll need your help to prepare for this trip”
“Are you talking to me?” You stammer.
“Yes, I’m talking to you!” she replies. “Every ship needs a crew! So come along now with me, we have so much to do!” She calls as she walks up onto the deck.
“What do you need this old ship for?”
“My friends are in trouble, and I’ve got to go fast! They’re in much deeper trouble every second that’s passed! ” And with that she grabs onto the ship’s helm, and the creak of wood fills the air as the ship rights itself and begins to sail through the water. The sails somehow fill with wind, and the rudder begins to steer the vessel through the darkness. The girl turns to you.
“By the way” she says. “I caught this by a glance. Could this possibly be yours by some chance?”
She holds out her hand. In her palm sits a button, glimmering in the light of the lanterns.
[[Take the Button]]As you take it from her outstretched hand, you are suddenly back in the field, and you feel the warmth and comfort from above. But this time, you see the light of the sun filtering through the branches of the trees. This is where you belong, you think to yourself. This is your still life.

As you sit in the cold water, you lose all hope completely and confusion overwhelms you. You don't know where you are, who you are, or why you are here. But does it even matter?
[[THE END]]
“I find that rather hard to believe.” You tell the man. “When was the last time you checked?”
“Well, um…” he thinks for a moment. “I don’t quite remember.”
“How about we try again?” You reply. And with that, you turn and walk off into the darkness. After a moment, you hear a splashing sound as the man runs to catch up with you.
“I don’t know what you hope to find down here, but if you find anything, I want to see it.”
“Okay then” you reply, as you set off [[into the unknown]]
For minutes, hours, or days, you walk through the darkness, enveloped in silence, save for the echoing splashes as you and your companion slosh your way through the tunnel. You suddenly stagger as you set your foot down on something hard and slippery in the water. Its another button. As your fingers reach through the freezing water to grab it, you are suddenly back in the field, but it is not the same. Now, there is a good feeling, a warmth, that comes over you as you hold the button in the palm of your hand.
“Look!” The man yells, shaking you out of your vision. “Up there!”
You turn your head upwards to see a single shaft of light piercing through the darkness. It’s coming from a hole in the roof of the tunnel, at the top of a rocky column stretching upwards into the darkness.
“Do you think we can get up there?” You ask the man.
“There’s no harm in [[trying]].”
The rocky column scrapes and cuts your hands as you climb, but you continue upwards towards freedom. Once you’re about twenty five feet up, there is a loud noise from the darkness, the creak of wood and the rumble of something big coming towards you.
“What’s that?” You call out.
“I don’t know!” Yells the man, who is above you on a ledge. “Keep climbing!”
You begin climbing faster, desperate to escape whatever approaches you from below. Suddenly, there is a loud yell from above you, and a rush of air as the man loses his hold on the ledge above you and plummets down into the darkness. After a moment, a splash echoes from the shadow. For a moment you sit there, too shocked to move, too shocked to think, able to hold onto the ledge solely through your will to live. Then a voice calls up.
“I’m okay!” The man calls, but the voice is weak and full of pain. “You keep going, I’ll catch up!”
“What about you?” You call down.
“I”ll be fine,” he replies with some difficulty. “ just keep climbing!”
You grit your teeth as you stare into the blackness that surrounds you. The rumbling grows closer. You have a difficult decision to make. After a moment, you decide to [[climb down to the man]] OR [[keep climbing]]
“I’m coming down!” You call to the man. “Just hold tight!”
“No, keep going!” He replies. “Get yourself out!”
“No, I need to-” just then, your foot comes down on a loose rock, which breaks away from the column and plummets down into the abyss. As your foot slips, you reach out to grab on to something, anything, that might stop your fall, something to avoid your tumble into the abyss below you. But there is nothing.
[[THE END]]
Ignoring your worries about the man, you keep climbing up towards the light. After what seems like an eternity, you reach the hole in the cavern ceiling, and squirm through it out of the tunnel. Your eyes see things in the light that comes from all around you, and your lungs fill with the cool, fresh air of the world above. You’ve escaped the tunnel. You are free now. And despite this, you still feel a lingering sense of doubt, an unsettling suspicion that you have left something down in the tunnel, something you will likely never have again.
[[THE END]]You decide to walk through the doorway to explore and you discover that this room is filled to the brim with glass cases displaying seemingly random objects. These are all that lie in this giant room. All of the sudden... you hear the footsteps of somebody walking by. Thinking quickly, you decide to
[[Investigate]]
[[Hide]]
[[Follow the footsteps]]
Upon hearing the footsteps, you decide to locate its source. Traveling farther and farther back into this giant room, you discover a man who looks as though he is repairing one of the glass cases. He is a very long, thin man with small black eyes, dressed very strangely.
“He--Hello?”
“Ah! Hello there! You seem lost my friend,” he replies.
“I am! Would you be willing to show me the way out of here?”
“Out of the Goods’ house? I’m not so sure that’s a good idea. I’d be more than happy to guide you to them though. They will know what’s best for you,” he says, smiling a large toothy grin.
“Oh, ok. What is your name?”
“Mister Servant.”
“Hello! My name is… I forgot…”
“Oh that’s quite alright. The Great Goods can help you with that as well,” Mister Servant says as he starts to lead you in the direction of another [[doorway]].
You quickly duck behind a large display case containing a single, perfect feather as the sound of footsteps grows closer. Hoping to avoid notice, you slide further down against the case towards the ground. As your hand touches the marble floor, you feel something round and smooth. The moment you touch the button, you feel the same feeling you felt earlier. This time though, you can hear the distant sound of [[music]]
The footsteps you here are approaching closer and closer. Fearful of who it may be and what might happen if they find you, you hide behind a nearby display case and wait for the the footsteps to pass. But they don’t. They keep coming closer and closer. You can feel your heart beating inside your chest and out from the corner of your eye you can see the feet that the footsteps belong to. Strangely enough, the person is only wearing one shoe on one foot, and one sock on the other foot. The person slowly passes as you lie motionless on the floor, patiently [[waiting]].
Passing through this next doorway is another white room decorated with an assortment of trinkets of varying size.
“What are all of these things for?” you ask, trying to keep up with Mister Servant.
“The Goods are collectors, you see. They collect only the best of things. You should be happy!”
“Oh. Ok.”
Your suspicions are starting to rise about Mister Servant. Still, he hasn’t shown any ill will towards you and knows his way around the house, so you decide it’s best to continue to follow him. On your way out of this room, you find another button on the floor. When you pick it up, the image that you saw before flashes in your mind again, accompanied by those familiar feelings. This time when you see the image, you can see it a little more [[clearly]]
Mister Servant yells for you to hurry if you want to find out who you are. You don’t want to be lost again, so you follow him down a long corridor that expands into a room larger than both of the previous ones. At the far end sit a man and a woman who, like Mister Servant, are dressed very peculiarly. Mister Servant leads you to them and after bowing to them says,
“My dearest Great Goods, I have brought you our most recent guests.”
“Oh excellent!” exclaims the man.
“Excellent indeed” agrees the woman.
“I am Grotto and this is Gretta. We will make sure to take care of you if you’d like!”
“Oh, um -- “
“Fantastic! From now on you shall be known as... Little Use”
“Oh yes I like that idea! Little Use it is!”
Upon meeting the Great Goods you are finally given your new identity, unknowingly submitting to be their captive, and never finding out the truth.
[[THE END]]
You are pulled from your vision as the sound of footsteps grows closer and closer. Suddenly they stop, and a voice calls out.
“Hello? Is anyone there?” the voice echoes through the large empty space. “Hello?” You try to stay as silent as possible behind the display case as the voice draws nearer. “Who’s there? I thought I heard somebody- oh hello there!” You look up to see a man with short sandy hair and a long dark beard looking down at you. “What are you doing down there?”
“I heard somebody coming and I panicked,” you explain.
“Probably a good idea.” the man replies. “You can’t trust anybody in this place.”
“What are you talking about?” you ask him.
“The Goods are probably trying to hunt us down as we speak. We need to run.”
“Who are the Goods? Why are they hunting you?”
“Terrible people, evil people. They control this whole island, and everyone on it. But I know a way we can escape. Follow me!” The man pulls you to your feet and takes off running between the display cases, with you struggling to [[keep up]]
After running for what seems like quite a while, you come upon a dark room, with a dirty brown table and a solitary chair. In the corner is a rotting trap door with a rusty latch. The man runs over to it and throws it open. “This way!” He calls to you. A ghastly wail emanates from beneath it, and a feeling of paralyzing fear fills you. Whatever’s down there, it’s not anything you want to encounter, but the man begins to position himself to jump down into the pit.
“Are you coming?” He asks you. You stand there on the edge of the pit, trying to make the decision. After a moment you reply:
[[“You go on ahead, I’ll stay here”]] OR [["I’ll be right down!"]]
“I’ll stay right here!” you reply to the man. “Whatever is down there is much worse than anything up here.”
“It’s your choice” replies the man. And with that, he leaps down into the dark abyss. You wait for a while in the dark room, wondering if perhaps you should have followed him into the darkness. Suddenly, you hear a loud voice behind you.
“Hey! You don’t belong in here!” A large man stands in the doorway, with an angry scowl and scarred hands balled into fists. Thinking quickly, you duck under his outstretched arms and bolt down the long marble hallway, the sound of your footsteps echoing throughout the empty space. As you try to lose your pursuer through the various twists and turns of the mansion, you turn a corner to find a large window at the end of the hall, and a flawless dresser positioned beneath it. You close your eyes and jump onto the dresser and through the window, smashing through the glass with your shoulder before landing on a hill of soft grass and tumbling down onto a sandy beach. As you haul your aching body into a sitting position, you see a small wooden raft floating in the waves. You quickly crawl to it and set off into the blue expanse of ocean that stretches out forever in front of you. As the raft sails over the water into the unknown, you are distracted by a tawny object floating through the water beside you. It’s a coat. You [[reach towards it]]
“I’ll be right down!” you exclaim as you close your eyes and jump into the hole in the floor. You fall for what seems like an eternity into the darkness, all the while the air grows colder and the wailing grows louder. Finally, you land in a deep pool of freezing water. Pulling yourself out of the pool, you crawl onto the cold hard ground and look around, but there is nothing to see. All around you is darkness. The man is nowhere to be found, and nobody else is, for that matter. You are completely, totally, absolutely, alone. You are forgotten.
[[THE END]]
As soon as your fingers touch the fabric, you feel the same familiar feeling rush from your fingertips to your body. Suddenly, you are back in the place you saw when you touched the buttons. You hear the sound of music in the air, and the joyous laughs of men and women enjoying themselves. This is where you belong, you think to yourself. This is your still life.
<img src="http://www.pablopicasso.org/images/paintings/three-musicians.jpg" width="500" height="300" alt="Two foxes">
[[THE END]]You quietly stand up from your hiding place after allowing the footsteps to fade to see a long, thin man dressed in very strange attire. Hoping that he will lead you to a way out of this strange place, you follow the man out of the room. As you are about to walk down a large corridor, you suddenly witness the man stop in his tracks and approach the wall to the corridor. He knocks on the surface and suddenly a doorway appears in the wall! He checks his surroundings before he enters and the doorway disappears behind him. After a few minutes, he leaves and you go to the place on the wall and knock, mimicking the man. The door opens, and you [[enter]].
Inside the room, coats line the walls of a very condensed closet. You search to see if there is one that you recognize but there are too many to search through. You do however, find a button on the floor; a button that is identical to the first one that you found. When you pick it up, an image once again appears in your head, slightly less blurry, and with it is the faint sound of music. You realize that there must be a connection. You leave the room and suddenly hear someone shout,
“HEY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THERE?!”
It’s the man! He’s charging down the corridor and you know you have to get out of there. Racing down the hall, you enter the other room and see what looks like an exit! Running, you spot what looks to be another button and you quickly grab it off the last display case before running outside into the near pitch-black night. You run and run until the grand estate that you woke up in can barely been seen in the distance and you are sure that you aren’t being followed. But then you hear another noise coming from a nearby [[bush]]
A man pops out of the bushes, a wild look in his eye. Startled, you trip and fall, frozen in place. However, he does not seem to want to harm you. Instead, he looks relieved and says,
“Thank goodness it’s you! I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to see if I could break you out but with no such luck! What happened?”
“I-I don’t understand. Who are you? Who… am I?” you reply.
“Everything should come back to you as soon as you put on this coat. I stole it back and have been keeping it safe,” the man says, holding up a tattered coat that seems familiar.
Cautious, you take the coat from the man and put it on, noticing that it fits perfectly. Memories start to flood back into your mind and you can finally see the image that you have been trying to see crystal clear.
“Good. Now we don’t have much time, we should return to Nocturno at once!” the man says.
Recognizing him as your friend that you can trust, you follow his lead back to your home and life escaping the Island of the Goods, safe from them at last.

[[Follow it]] OR [[Ignore it]]
It leads you to a village where the people seem to be in a hurry. You don't know why.
[[Talk to someone]] OR [[Make your way through the crowd]]
You wander into a forest. It seems like nothing but blackness for miles. You walk further amongst the wood and you run into a tree. A length of rope falls from a branch.
[[Keep it]] OR [[Leave it]]
You approach a man who, by the supplies he's carrying, looks like a tailor. You ask him what's happening. He explains that everyone is trying to prepare for the new day. He asks you what your job is. You don't know. He inspects your clothing.
[[Walk away]] OR [[Let him continue]]
You manage to find your way into an open field. You hear people in the village shouting “Almost day! Almost day!”
[[Go back]] OR [[Sit and wait for the sun]]
You walk away from the tailor because he seems quite odd. In fact, everyone seems odd. You aren't sure if you like this place and you decide to go somewhere else.
[[THE END]]
“Your Past Coat is so tattered and torn. No wonder you can't seem to remember anything. Let me fix that up for you.” The stranger pulls a needle from a flower-shaped cushion pinned to his jacket and starts mending the tears. When he finishes, he asks “How do you feel?” Everything comes back. Your mind is flooded with old memories. You now know what you have to do. You take a long piece of rope from a passing cart and run into the woods, thanking the Memory Mender as you rush off. You locate the moon and fashion a lasso out of the rope. You twirl the lasso over your head and release. When you seize the moon, you give a sharp tug and it lands at your feet. You then whistle, letting them know that it's time for the sun to rise.

Out of boredom, you walk back to the village. Maybe you can help. For the next few hours, you help put spots on ladybugs, paint flowers, monitor leaves, and teach the wind to howl. People keep telling you to break the day, but you have no idea what that means. A man who looks like a tailor by the way he's dressed, suddenly rushes off into the woods. The morning finally comes and the residents of the village return to their homes.

Off in the distance, you hear cries of “Almost day!” You are puzzled because the day doesn’t seem to be coming.

As soon as you touch the rope, you see an image in your mind. It's so vivid and so familiar, but you don't know where it came from.
[[Continue through the woods]] OR [[Try to reenact the memory]]
You continue walking through the woods. After walking for what seemed like hours, you bump into what you think is a tree. As you look up, you see a shadowy figure standing over you.
[[Run away]] OR [[Confront it]]
You've gone so far into the forest and you don't even know where you are at this point. You decide to build a shelter using the rope you found. When you sit inside your makeshift home, you start to wonder if you ever had a real home.
[[THE END]]
The memory is of you trying to swing a lasso at the moon. You start there. You find a spot that gives you enough room to swing a rope and allows the moon to be in clear view. You fashion a lasso the best you can and twirl it over your head. You release and the rope flies backwards. After four failed attempts, you finally grab the moon. You give a sharp tug and the moon lands at your feet. You pick it up, look at it, and wonder what you should do next.
[[THE END]]
You run as fast as you can in the other direction. In the midst of running, you fall into a hole and land on a pile of dented toasters, broken coat hangers, and hoards of other discarded things. You hear footsteps coming toward you. “Who's there?” you say as a silhouette of a man approaches you. “I’m Captain Also,” he says. “Welcome to the Tunnel of the Unwanted.”
[[THE END]]
“Who are you?” you say. “You have been chosen,” says the figure. “Chosen for what?” “Chosen to work for the rulers of Nocturno, the Great Goods.” You try to escape, but the stranger grabs you by the arm and removes your tattered coat. All memories and all thoughts disappear.
